Election Details for Grey Highlands Municipality

* Mail-in (or drop-off) ballot *

Ballots will be mailed out at the end of September, 2010 to all electors shown on the Voters List.  Ballots should be returned by October 14th to ensure they reach the Municipality Office prior to election day; October 25, 2010.  Ballots may also be dropped off at the Grey Highlands Municipality Office in Markdale.

Any member of the public is entitled to inspect the Voters List at the Municipal Administration Office in Markdale.  After September 1st, 2010 an Interim Revision List shall also be available for public inspection.

If you are not on the Voters List

Call the Municipality of Grey Highlands office before September 30, at 519-986-2811 to ask that the appropriate Form be mailed to you to complete and return to the Municipal Office.  You can also go in person to the office to complete the Form.  If the application is endorsed, the elector will receive his/her ballot package by mail if possible.

After September 30, electors must contact or attend in person to the Municipality of Grey Highlands Administration Office to complete and file the form.  If the application is endorsed, the elector will be issued his/her ballot package at that time.

Advanced Poll

The advance Poll will run continuously from 8:30 a.m. September 28 to 9:59 a.m. October 25, 2010.

What Happens with Returned Ballots

Mailed or dropped-off return envelopes will be used to daily update the Voters List at the Municipal Administration Office.  An area will also be provided for those voters who wish to fill out their ballots.

Every day, Election Staff will remove the secrecy envelopes and using the information on the Voter Declaration Form, strike the Voters name from the Voters List.

The unmarked, sealed secrecy envelopes will be slit open with the ballot remaining (never removed) within the envelope, grouped into 25 and placed in a ballot box containing no more than 150 ballots. This box will be sealed, not to be opened until election day.  Scrutineers may be present to watch these proceedings daily.  Click here for further details on becoming a scrutineer.
